Ten Ways to Stay Drug Free

Be happy with yourself – do what you love to do. Be Real. Be Drug-Free.

1. Get involved in extracurricular activities at school, such as basketball, band, or quiz bowl, or with a youth group, such as Girl Scouts or 4-H.

2. Talk to your parents, grandparents, or other adults about what life was like when they were your age and how they remained real to themselves.

3. Volunteer your time to something you care about, like reading to younger kids at a library, cleaning up your local park, or organizing food drives for the homeless.

4. Help your friends be real by being a better listener, helping them with their problems, and supporting their goals and dreams.

5. Be a role model to younger kids by helping coach a peewee sports team, helping kids in the neighborhood with their homework, or just being a good big brother or sister.

6. Take time to write in a journal a few times a week about what is on your mind, the things in your life that make you happy, and your dreams.

7. Ask your friends to start a fun project with you, like fixing up old bicycles, planting a garden, or making crafts.

8. Read a book, newspaper, or magazine for 20 minutes a day to learn about new people and places.

9. Explore a new place, like a museum, park, or library, every month with friends or family members.

10. Spend at least 15 minutes everyday relaxing in a quiet place and thinking about your goals and dreams for the future.
